Fasting for Your Finances

There is more than one way to become a good Steward over all the Lord gives you.  As I was thinking of ways to walk in God's purpose for my life, I was led to an article that talked about ways to Fast.  One of the ways was Fasting for Finances.  Doing this season called Lent, people usually food fast.
Fasting is to setaside something that is necessary in your life and commune with God about it, so that you have better control of it.  So, why not fast for your finances?  Financies are something that is neccessary, something that we need to control better and something we use for the benefit of the body of Christ.
To help start a fast about your finances here are 3 step to consider:
1.  Determine your objectives:  I will stop spending on __________________
I will stop shopping at _____________________________
I will cut back on spending for _______________________
Whatever part of your finances you see needs work, you will tackle, be specific.  When the notion hits you to buy/spend in that area put that dollar amount in an envelop.  If it was going to be a charge write it down in a little black book titled 'Things I gave up for Lent'.  Putting a dollar amount on anything helps you better see your spending habits.  Most of the time when you give up something and spend time with God talking about it, you will find that habit is no longer a stumbling block to you.
2.  Talk to God by studing his word and praying.  What will he have you do with the new found wealth?  You are fasting about the stewardship of finances, so look up words about finances, money, spending etc, in God's Word and run the scriptures concerning those words.  Understanding what you are doing helps you stick to it.
3.  This third step is to Thank God for this opportunity to learn to be financially healthy both spiritually and physicially by learning to effectively handle your finances.   Be Blessed until next time.
